Sentient, The Veterinary Institute for Animal Ethics (ABN: 66706715579) is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).  Our listing on the ACNC Register reassures our supporters that Sentient has ongoing obligations to the ACNC, such as providing annual financial statements and keeping our information on the Register up-to-date. Sentient’s work to prevent and relieve the suffering of animals is advocacy based, rather than involving the direct care of animals. This means that, unlike many other animal charities, we do not qualify for DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status, so financial donations to Sentient do not incur tax deductions and nor do we qualify for many philanthropic grants. All committee positions are voluntary and we receive no government funding or industry sponsorship. Our independence is crucial for fostering transparency and removing any potential impediments to the full expression of our advocacy. It also means that we rely solely on membership fees, donations or fundraising activities to continue our work. We are most grateful to our supporters.
